Situatie
Useful when you reformat your computer or set up a new one: reinstall all your applications with a single command.
Requirements: Windows 10/11 with winget installed (it ships with App Installer).
Solutie
- Open Terminal, Command Prompt or PowerShell.
- Check that winget works:
winget --version
- Export the list of applications to a file:
winget export -o C:\Backup\apps.json
(the C:\Backup folder must already exist)
- Open the file in Notepad and remove any applications you do not want to reinstall. Some apps may show a “not available from any source” warning and will be skipped during import.
- Copy
apps.jsonto the new PC (USB drive, cloud storage or network share). - On the new PC, run the import:
winget import -i C:\Backup\apps.json --accept-package-agreements --accept-source-agreements
- Wait for it to finish. At the end, winget shows what was installed and what was skipped.
Limitations: winget only reinstalls applications found in its sources (winget repository, Microsoft Store). Licenses and application settings are not transferred and must be re-entered manually.
