  1. Choose operating system

    • Linux (Ubuntu Server) recommended

  2. Install minimal system

    • No GUI to save resources

  3. Assign static IP

    • Prevents network issues

  4. Install services

    • File server (Samba)

    • Media server (Plex or Jellyfin)

    • Backup server

  5. Secure the server

    • Enable firewall

    • Disable root SSH login

    • Use strong passwords or keys

  6. Enable remote access

    • SSH or VPN only

 Result: personal cloud and media server at home.
