Printer won’t print even though it’s connected

Configurare noua (How To)

Situatie

The printer is online, it shows “Ready”, but nothing prints. Jobs are stuck in queue, or disappear.

You might see:

“Printing…” stuck forever
“Error – Printing” in the queue

Solutie

Step 1: Restart Print Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type: services.msc

  • Find Print Spooler

    • Right-click → Stop

    • Go to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS\

    • Delete all files in this folder

    • Go back and Start the Print Spooler again

Step 2: Reinstall Printer Driver

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners

  • Remove the printer

  • Go to Device Manager > Print queues

    • Right-click printer > Uninstall

  • Reboot

  • Reconnect printer and download latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website (not Windows Update!)

Step 3: Check Default Printer and Ports

  • In Printers & Scanners, make sure your printer is Set as default

  • Click the printer → Manage > Printer properties > Ports

    • Ensure correct port is selected (e.g., USB001 or TCP/IP address)

  • If using a network printer, test pinging it:

ping 192.168.1.105

(Replace with your printer’s IP.)

Step 4: Try Printing from Notepad

Test printing from a basic app:

  • Open Notepad → Type something → File > Print

  • If it works here but not in Word/Chrome, the issue is with that application’s settings or drivers.

Bonus Tips

  • Avoid using generic drivers. Use dedicated software (e.g., HP Smart, Epson Connect)

  • Use “Print as Image” in PDF apps as a workaround for driver errors

  • If you’re in a workgroup: ensure File and Printer Sharing is enabled in Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.
