Install VeraCrypt
- Create an encrypted container file
Choose encryption settings
- AES + SHA-512 recommended
Mount container as a drive
- Assign a drive letter
Configure Windows Backup
- Set File History to back up into the encrypted drive
Schedule automatic mounting
- Use Task Scheduler (advanced users)
Test backup restoration
- Ensure files can be recovered

Result: backups safe even if the drive is stolen.
