Step 1: Access the RAID Configuration Utility
Power on or restart the server.
- During boot, press F10 to enter the HPE Intelligent Provisioning tool (recommended)
- Alternatively, press F9 to enter System Utilities, then select HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA)
- Inside HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA), select the appropriate RAID controller (e.g., HPE Smart Array P408i-a).
Step 2: Create a RAID Array
Navigate to “Smart Array Configuration”.
- Select “Create Array”
- Choose the physical drives you want to include in the RAID
- Select the desired RAID level:
RAID 0 (Striping, no redundancy)
RAID 1 (Mirroring, 2 drives)
RAID 5 (Striping with parity, min. 3 drives)
RAID 6 (Striping with double parity, min. 4 drives)
RAID 10 (Striped + Mirrored, min. 4 drives)
- Set the stripe size (default is usually fine)
- Choose the caching options (write-back is recommended if you have a battery-backed cache)
- Click “Create Array” and confirm.
Step 3: Save and Reboot
Once the RAID is created, exit the SSA tool.
If you’re installing an OS, proceed with the installation (your RAID array should now be detected as a single logical disk). If not, reboot and configure the OS as needed.
