1. Restart Your Mac and Router

  • Restart your Mac: Click on the Apple menu () > “Restart…” > Confirm by clicking “Restart”.
  • Restart your Router: Unplug the router from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow the router to reboot completely.

2. Turn Wi-Fi Off and On

  • Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar at the top right of your screen.
  • Select “Turn Wi-Fi Off”.
  • Wait a few seconds, then click the Wi-Fi icon again and select “Turn Wi-Fi On”.

3. Forget and Reconnect to the Network

  • Click on the Apple menu () > “System Settings” > “Network”.
  • Select “Wi-Fi” from the left sidebar.
  • Click “Advanced…” at the bottom.
  • Select the Wi-Fi network you’re having trouble with and click the “-” (minus) button to forget it.
  • Click “OK” and then “Apply”.
  • Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network by selecting it from the list and entering the password.

4. Check Wi-Fi Diagnostics

  • Hold the Option key and click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
  • Select “Open Wireless Diagnostics…”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and possibly fix the issue.

5. Renew DHCP Lease

  • Go to the Apple menu () > “System Settings” > “Network”.
  • Select “Wi-Fi” from the left sidebar.
  • Click “Advanced…” at the bottom.
  • Go to the “TCP/IP” tab.
  • Click “Renew DHCP Lease”.
  • Click “OK” and then “Apply”.

6. Check Your DNS Settings

  • Go to the Apple menu () > “System Settings” > “Network”.
  • Select “Wi-Fi” from the left sidebar.
  • Click “Advanced…” at the bottom.
  • Go to the “DNS” tab.
  • Add Google’s DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) by clicking the “+” button and entering each IP address.
  • Click “OK” and then “Apply”.
