If you have an iPhone running iOS 16 or later, you can easily remove the background from a photo without any external apps.
1. Using the Photos App in iOS 16 or Later
iOS 16 introduced a built-in feature that allows you to automatically remove the background from an image, making the process quick and easy:
- Open the Photos app and find the photo you want to edit.
- Press and hold on the main subject in the photo (a person, object, or animal). The iPhone will automatically detect and highlight the subject, separating it from the background.
- Automatic subject cutout: Once the subject is highlighted, you’ll see a small menu appear with the option to “Copy” or “Share” the cut-out subject. Tap Copy to extract the subject without the background.
- Paste or use the cutout: You can now paste the subject without the background into any app that supports images, like Notes, Messages, or even a photo editing app.
2. Using the Files App for Further Editing
After copying the subject, you can use the Files app to save or edit the image further:
- Open the Files app and create a new document or folder where you want to store the cut-out image.
- Paste the image: Long-press in the document or folder and select “Paste” to insert the image with the background removed.
- You can now share, move, or further edit the image as needed.
