If your organization disabled Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) on users’ devices, Microsoft Edge is responsible for Internet Explorer compatibility. As an admin, you can configure Legacy Browser Support (LBS) so that users can use Microsoft Edge in IE mode to view legacy websites that require IE compatibility.

Download the appropriate Chrome browser for enterprise bundle (64 or 32-bit). Go to Download Chrome browser for enterprise. Check to make sure that you have the correct LBS MSI version 6.0.0 or later installed:
- Windows 32-bit—LegacyBrowserSupport_6.0.0_en.msi or later
- Windows 64-bit—LegacyBrowserSupport_6.0.0_en_x64.msi or later
Configure Chrome browser policies

Sign in to your Google Admin console.Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

From the Admin console Home page, go to DevicesChrome.
- Click SettingsUsers & browsers.
- To apply the setting to all users and enrolled browsers, leave the top organizational unit selected. Otherwise, select a child organizational unit.
- Go to Legacy Browser Support.
- For Legacy Browser Support, select Enable Legacy Browser Support.
- Specify which browser to use as an alternative:
- Scroll to Alternative browser path.
- Enter ${edge}.
- (Optional) Customize LBS. For details about LBS settings, see Set Chrome policies for users or browsers.
- Click Save.
Configure Microsoft Edge browser policies
In your Microsoft Windows Group Policy Management Editor (Computer or User Configuration folder), set the policy to use the Legacy Browser Support for IE Mode in Edge extension:
- Go to Administrative TemplatesMicrosoft Edge.
- Automatically install the Legacy Browser Support for IE Mode in Edge extension on users’ devices:
- Turn on Control which extensions are installed silently.
- Under Options, enter the extension’s ID:

- Enable IE integration:
- Turn on Configure Internet Explorer integration.
- Under Options, select Internet Explorer mode if you want sites to open in Microsoft Edge using IE mode.

Chrome browser
- Admin console—On the Users & browsers settings page, scroll to Use Internet Explorer site list and select Use Internet Explorer’s Sitelist policy as a source or rules.
- Group Policy—Open Group Policy and go to Administrative TemplatesGoogleGoogle Chrome. Enable Use Internet Explorer’s SiteList policy for Legacy Browser Support.
Test your installation
- On a test computer, verify that the policies are correct for:
- Chrome browser—Open Chrome browser and go to chrome://policy
- Microsoft Edge—Open Microsoft Edge browser and go to edge://policy
- If you don’t see the correct policies or settings, open a command line and enter
gpupdate /force
to force Group Policy Management Editor to update. - (Optional) To view details about LBS in Chrome, open Chrome browser and go to chrome://browser-switch/internals.
- In the URL Checker box, enter the URL to see which browser opens it.
- Under Sitelist, review the list to see which URLs open in the alternative browser.
- Under Greylist, review the list to see which URLs open in either browser.
- Under XML sitelists, review the list to see which URLs are configured.
- (Optional) To view details about IE mode in Microsoft Edge, open Microsoft Edge browser and go to edge://compat.
