Telephony function

The Telephony menu function allows users to capture and analyze voice and video calls, instant messages, and other telephony-related traffic. this menu contains the items such as RTP, RTSP, SCTP, SMPP operation, etc. And the telephony function also contains the MTP3 Windows sub-items which play an important role while curing the network.

MTP3 Windows

As we seen above the MTP3 is the sub-items or functions of the telephony menu function. MTP3 (Message Transfer Part Level 3) is a protocol used in telecommunication networks for message transfer between different network elements. MTP3 Windows in Wireshark refer to the various fields and information present in the MTP3 layer of a captured packet in a Wireshark trace.

The MTP3 layer is responsible for routing messages between different signaling points in a network. It is divided into several fields, each of which contains different information about the message being transferred. These fields are represented as windows in a Wireshark trace.

MTP3 also contains some sub-function as MTP3 Statistics and MTP3 Summary.

MTP3 statistics refer to the various performance metrics and counters that are collected to measure the efficiency and reliability of MTP3 in a network.

MTP3 Summary

MTP3 Summary contains some information about all kinds of protocol, service indicators contains. So in general the various MTP3 windows in a Wireshark trace, network engineers and analysts can gain insights into the behavior of the telecommunication network, identify issues and troubleshoot problems.
