Situatie
Visual Studio Code includes a built-in file comparison feature that allows you to quickly identify differences between two files. This is useful when comparing configuration files, scripts, source code, logs, or different versions of the same document.
Solutie
Compare Files using the Explorer
Step 1 – Open the Files in Visual Studio Code
Open Visual Studio Code and navigate to:
File > Open Folder
Select the folder containing the files that you want to compare. The files should now appear in the Explorer panel on the left side of Visual Studio Code.
Step 2 – Select the first File
In the Explorer panel:
- Right-click the first file
- Select Select for Compare
Visual Studio Code will store this file as the first file in the comparison.
Step 3 – Compare with the Second File
Locate the second file in the Explorer panel.
- Right-click the second file
- Select Compare with Selected
Visual Studio Code will open the comparison view automatically.
The files are displayed side by side:
- The left side contains the first selected file.
- The right side contains the second file.
- Modified lines are highlighted.
- Added or removed content is visually marked.
- Unchanged sections remain normally displayed.
This makes it easy to identify configuration changes, missing lines, modified values, or differences between file versions.
