Situatie
To fix Sinhala font rendering and rendering issues in Windows 11, install the latest Unicode font (Iskoola Pota), install the Sinhala language pack, or remove conflicting Legacy/DL-series fonts.
Solutie
1. Install Sinhala Language Support
Windows sometimes shows Sinhala but doesn’t fully support it unless the language pack is installed.
Do this:
-
Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region
-
Click Add a language
-
Search for Sinhala
-
Select Sinhala (Sri Lanka) → Next
-
Make sure Language pack is checked
-
Install and restart your PC
Restart is important — don’t skip it.
2. Enable Unicode
If Sinhala text appears as boxes (□) or weird symbols:
-
Open Control Panel
-
Go to Clock and Region → Region
-
Open Administrative tab
-
Click Change system locale
-
Select Sinhala (Sri Lanka)
-
✔️ Make sure “Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8” is UNCHECKED
-
Restart
Sinhala works best without UTF-8 beta enabled.
3. Install Proper Sinhala Fonts
Windows 11 usually includes Sinhala fonts, but they can get corrupted or missing.
Recommended Sinhala fonts:
-
Iskoola Pota (official, best)
-
FM Abhaya
-
Malithi Web
-
Noto Sans Sinhala
How to install fonts:
-
Download
.ttfor.otffont file -
Right-click → Install
-
Restart the app you’re using (Word, browser, etc.)
4. Fix Sinhala in Microsoft Word / Office
If Sinhala is broken only in Word:
-
Open Word → File → Options
-
Go to Advanced
-
Scroll to Show document content
-
Set Default font to Iskoola Pota
-
Save and restart Word
5. Browser Sinhala Issues
If websites show broken Sinhala:
-
Open browser Settings
-
Search for Fonts
-
Set Standard / Serif font to Iskoola Pota or Noto Sans Sinhala
-
Refresh the page.
