Situatie
When you try to open a program, Windows shows: “This app can’t run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher”.
Solutie
Step 1: Check System Type
The app may be 64-bit, but your OS is 32-bit (or vice versa).
-
Press
Windows + I
→ go to System > About. -
Look under System type:
e.g., 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
If your system is 32-bit, you can’t run 64-bit apps.
Step 2: Check App Version
Right-click the installer or app → Properties > Details.
Check the file version and architecture (x86 = 32-bit, x64 = 64-bit).
If it’s incompatible, download the correct version from the developer’s site.
Step 3: Unblock the File
Right-click the file → Properties → at bottom, check Unblock if available → Apply.
Sometimes Windows blocks files from unknown sources.
Step 4: Try Compatibility Mode
Right-click → Properties > Compatibility tab
Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select an older version (e.g., Windows 8).
Step 5: Re-download or Reinstall
Corrupt downloads can cause this. Always download from trusted sources. Re-download and try again.
Bonus Tips
-
Avoid running random
.exe
files from the web. Use VirusTotal to scan them. -
If you’re on Windows 10 S Mode, it only runs Microsoft Store apps.
