Step 1: Confirm sync client involvement

Open Task Manager:

  • Check CPU, Disk, Network usage

  • Pause sync temporarily

If performance improves → sync client is involved.

Step 2: Identify problematic folders

Common issues:

  • Huge directories

  • Thousands of small files

  • Databases or VM files

Exclude these from sync.

Step 3: Configure selective sync

Only sync:

  • Active work folders

  • Documents, not system or app data

Avoid syncing:

  • Backup folders

  • Temp directories

Step 4: Prevent conflicts with backups

Never back up cloud-sync folders while syncing:

  • Pause sync during backup

Step 5: Rebuild sync database if needed
