Step 1: Confirm sync client involvement
Open Task Manager:

Check CPU, Disk, Network usage

Pause sync temporarily
If performance improves → sync client is involved.
Step 2: Identify problematic folders
Common issues:

Huge directories

Thousands of small files
-
Databases or VM files
Exclude these from sync.
Step 3: Configure selective sync
Only sync:

Active work folders
-
Documents, not system or app data
Avoid syncing:

Backup folders
-
Temp directories
Step 4: Prevent conflicts with backups
Never back up cloud-sync folders while syncing:

Pause sync during backup

Or exclude cloud folders from backup
Step 5: Rebuild sync database if needed
