Integrating Twitch with your Discord server offers significant benefits for both you as a streamer and your community:

  1. Exclusive Perks for Subscribers:
    • Subscriber-Only Channels: Offer private text and voice channels where your most dedicated fans can interact with you and each other. This creates a more intimate and valuable community space.
    • Exclusive Content: Use these channels for Q&As, early access to announcements, behind-the-scenes content, or even playing games directly with your subscribers.
    • Enhanced Engagement: Subscribers feel more valued when they receive special access and recognition.
  2. Automated Role Management:
    • Discord automatically assigns and removes subscriber roles based on their Twitch subscription status. This eliminates manual work for you or your moderators, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
    • No more manually checking who’s subscribed or removing roles from expired subs.
  3. Stronger Community Building:
    • It provides a dedicated off-stream hub for your viewers to connect, discuss your streams, share fan art, and build friendships.
    • This continuous engagement helps retain viewers and fosters a loyal fanbase that extends beyond just your live streams.
  4. Tier-Based Benefits:
    • If you have Tier 1, 2, and 3 subscriptions on Twitch, Discord creates corresponding roles, allowing you to offer differentiated benefits for each tier. For example, Tier 3 subs might get access to even more exclusive channels or direct voice chat with you.
  5. Notifications and Announcements (via bots):
    • While the direct integration focuses on roles, many Discord bots (like Streamlabs, StreamElements, Streamcord, or Zapier) can be set up to send automatic notifications to your Discord channels when you go live on Twitch, post a new clip, or other stream events. This keeps your community informed and drives traffic back to your stream.

Solutie

Step 1: Connect Your Twitch Account to Your Discord User Profile (if you haven’t already)

Even as a streamer, you first need to link your own Twitch account to your Discord user profile. This is typically done automatically when you become an Affiliate/Partner, but it’s a good first check.

  1. Open your Discord app.
  2. Click on the User Settings cogwheel (⚙️) next to your username in the bottom left corner.
  3. Go to “Connections” in the left-hand menu.
  4. Click on the Twitch icon.
  5. You’ll be redirected to Twitch’s authorization page. Log in to your Twitch account and authorize the connection.

Step 2: Integrate Your Twitch Channel with Your Discord Server

Once your personal Twitch account is connected and you’re an Affiliate/Partner:

  1. Go to your Discord server
  2. Click on your server’s name in the upper-left corner to open the dropdown menu
  3. Select “Server Settings”
  4. In the left-hand menu, under the “Integrations” section, click on “Twitch”
  5. On the Twitch Integration page, you should see an option to “Connect” your Twitch channel (if it’s not already connected). Follow the prompts to link it.
  6. Once connected, Discord will automatically:
    • Create a “Twitch Subscriber” role (and potentially Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 roles). These roles are automatically managed by the integration – you cannot manually assign or remove members from them.
    • Sync your subscriber list from Twitch to your Discord server. This means that anyone currently subscribed to your Twitch channel (who has also connected their Twitch account to their Discord user profile) will automatically be assigned the corresponding subscriber role(s) in your Discord server.
  7. Manage Integration Settings:
    • On the Twitch integration page in your Server Settings, you can:
      • Sync: Manually run a sync of your subscriber list.
      • Grace Period: Set a grace period for subscribers who might have just missed a payment or whose subscription expired. This determines how long they retain the subscriber role on Discord after their Twitch sub expires before being removed.
      • Remove Role: Choose what happens when a subscriber loses their role (e.g., just remove the role, or kick them from the server).
      • Channel Sync: You can create specific channels that are only accessible to certain subscriber tiers by adjusting the channel permissions.

Step 3: Configure Subscriber Roles and Channels

After the integration, you can customize the automatically created subscriber roles and set up subscriber-only channels:

  1. Edit Roles:
    • Go to Server Settings > Roles
    • You’ll see the new “Twitch Subscriber” roles. You can rename these roles, change their colors, and adjust their permissions like any other role. For example, you might rename “Twitch Subscriber” to “VIP Community Member” or “Elite Supporter.”
  2. Create Subscriber-Only Channels:
    • Create a new text or voice channel.
    • When setting up the channel permissions, make it a private channel.
    • Specifically allow the “Twitch Subscriber” role(s) to view and send messages in that channel, while denying the @everyone role. This creates exclusive content areas for your supporters.
