How to Set Your Custom Invite Background:
Once your server has reached Boosting Level 1:
- Go to Server Settings:
- Click on your server’s name in the upper-left corner of the Discord app
- Select “Server Settings”
- Navigate to Overview:
- In the Server Settings menu on the left, click on “Overview”
- Scroll to “Server Invite Background”:
- Scroll down to the bottom of the “Overview” page. You will see a section titled “Server Invite Background”
- Upload Your Background Image:
- Click the “Upload Background” button
- Choose the image file from your computer
Image Guidelines and Tips:
- Recommended Size: Discord recommends an image size of 1920×1080 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Larger images (like 1920×1080) can be uploaded, and Discord will automatically resize them.
- Safe Zone: The invite pop-up itself is an upright rectangular window that appears in the middle of the screen. This means a significant portion of your background image will be covered.
- Avoid placing crucial information, logos, or text in the center of your image, as it will likely be obscured by the invite box.
- It’s generally recommended to keep important visual elements towards the edges or corners of the image, especially the top and bottom.
- Some online tools and communities have created templates (like those from Kapwing or community-made Reddit posts) that show the “safe zones” and areas likely to be covered. Searching for “Discord invite background template” can be very helpful for design.
- Represent Your Server: Choose an image that accurately represents your server’s theme, purpose, or community. This could be key art from a game, a subtle abstract background, or something that evokes the general vibe of your server.
- No Logos/Text (Recommended): Discord generally recommends not using an image with a logo or text for your Server Invite Background. This is because the invite pop-up itself already displays your server’s name and icon, and adding more text or logos might make it look cluttered or hard to read.
- Preview: After uploading, you’ll see a preview of how your background will look. You can also copy your server’s invite link and paste it into an incognito/private browser window to see the live view from a new user’s perspective.
Important Notes:
- Boosts are Ongoing: The custom invite background perk requires your server to maintain Boosting Level 1. If your server loses boosts and drops below Level 1, the custom background will no longer be active.
- No Editing After Upload: Once you upload an image for the Server Invite Background, you cannot directly “edit” or “adjust” it within Discord. If you want to change it, you’ll need to upload a new image.
- Distinct from Server Banner: The “Server Invite Background” is separate from the “Server Banner” (which appears at the top of your channel list once you reach Boosting Level 2). While both are visual elements, they serve different purposes and have different display areas.
