Unlike previous Microsoft operating systems, Windows 10 allows you to set a default save location – other than the system drive (which in most cases is C: ). In order to specify a different save location for your documents and pictures, an external storage media must be connected to your PC. The external storage media can be an external hard disk drive, a USB drive, etc.
The only limitation while setting a different default save location in Windows 10 is that you cannot change the default location for the apps that you download and install on your computer. You can change the default save location to an external drive only for the documents, images, and other files.
Once you have connected and external storage media to your Windows 10 computer, here is how you can change the default save location and set it to the connected storage:

Log onto your Windows 10 PC.
Once on the desktop window, click the Start button (button with the Windows icon) from the bottom left corner.
From the displayed Start menu, under the Places section from the left pane, click Settings.
On the opened Settings window, click the System icon.
From the navigation pane (left pane) of the opened System window, click to select the Storage Sense option.
Under the Save locations section from the right pane, click the drop-down list under the Save new documents to option.
From the displayed options, click the drive letter representing the external connected storage device where you want to set the save location for your documents.
Note: If multiple external storage devices are connected to the PC, you can choose different locations for different objects by following this process too. You can repeat the step 7 for all the available options under the Save locations section to change their default save location, except for the Save new apps and games to one.
Once everything is done, close the opened window and start using your Windows 10 PC normally.
