Deleting your Discord account is a permanent action. It doesn’t just deactivate it; after a grace period, your data is removed.
Important things to know before deleting your account:
- Server Ownership: You must either delete all servers you own or transfer ownership of them to another user before you can delete your account. Discord will not allow you to delete your account if you are the sole owner of any server.
- Messages: While your account is deleted, messages you’ve sent in DMs, group chats, or servers will remain visible but will show as “Deleted User#0000” or similar, and will no longer be linked to your profile. If you want to delete specific messages, you must do so before deleting your account.
- Friends List/DMs: Your account will be removed from other users’ friends lists. Your direct message conversations will remain in their chat history but will show “Deleted Use”.
- Nitro/Subscriptions: Any active Nitro subscriptions or server boosts tied to your account will be canceled.
- 15-Day Grace Period: After you initiate the deletion process, your account enters a “pending deletion” state for 15 days. During this period, you can log back into your account to cancel the deletion if you change your mind. After 15 days, the deletion becomes permanent and irreversible.

How to Delete Your Discord Account (Desktop App or Web Browser):
- Handle Server Ownership:
- Go to each server you own
- Click the server name at the top left > Server Settings
- If you want to delete the server: Scroll down the left menu and click “Delete Server” (it’s in red). You’ll need to confirm by typing the server name.
- If you want to transfer ownership: Go to “Members.” Find the member you want to transfer ownership to, click the three dots (
...) next to their name, and select “Transfer Ownership.” Follow the prompts to confirm. - Repeat this for ALL servers you own.
- Access User Settings:
- In Discord, look for the cogwheel icon (⚙️) in the bottom-left corner, next to your username and avatar. Click on it. This opens “User Settings”.
- Go to “My Account”:
- In the left-hand menu of User Settings, ensure “My Account” is selected (it usually is by default when you open settings).
- Find “Delete Account”:
- Scroll down to the very bottom of the “My Account” page.
- You will see two options: “Disable Account” and “Delete Account.” Click “Delete Account”.
- Confirm Deletion:
- A pop-up window will appear asking for confirmation.
- Enter your Discord account password.
- If you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled, you will also be prompted to enter your 6-digit 2FA code.
- Click the “Delete Account” button to confirm.
- Account Logged Out and Pending Deletion:
- You will be immediately logged out of your Discord account. Your account is now in the 15-day pending deletion state.
- You will likely receive an email from Discord confirming that your account is scheduled for deletion.
How to Delete Your Discord Account (Mobile App – iOS/Android):
- Handle Server Ownership:
- Go to each server you own
- Tap the server name at the top > Settings
- If you want to delete the server: Tap “Overview” (if present), then scroll down and tap “Delete Server” Confirm the deletion.
- If you want to transfer ownership: Tap “Members.” Find the member, tap their name, tap the three dots (
...) or “Manage” (depending on app version), and select “Transfer Ownership”. - Repeat for all servers you own.
- Access User Settings:
- Tap on your profile icon in the bottom right corner of the Discord app.
- Tap the cogwheel icon (⚙️) in the top right of your profile page. This opens “User Settings”
- Go to “Account”:
- Near the top of the User Settings page, tap “Account”
- Find “Delete Account”:
- Scroll down to the bottom of the “Account” page.
- You will see “Delete Account.” Tap it.
- Confirm Deletion:
- A prompt will appear.
- Enter your Discord account password.
- If you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled, you will also be asked for your 2FA code.
- Tap “OK” or “Delete Account” to confirm.
- Account Logged Out and Pending Deletion:
- You will be logged out. Your account is now in the 15-day pending deletion state.
To Cancel Account Deletion (within 15 days):
- Simply log back into your Discord account using your credentials within the 15-day grace period. Discord will prompt you and give you the option to restore your account, canceling the deletion process.
Remember, once the 15-day period is over, the deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.
