Identify the problem tabs or processes

Open your browser

Press Shift + Esc in Chrome or about:performance in Firefox

Look for tabs or extensions using unusually high CPU
-
Close or reload the problematic tabs/extensions

Chrome: chrome://extensions/

Firefox: about:addons
-

- Disable all extensions.
- Re-enable them one by one to find the one causing the spike.
Clear Browser Cache

Open browser settings
-
Go to Privacy & Security -> Clear Browsing Data

Clear:
- Cached images/files
- Cookies
Update the Browser

Go to:
- Chrome: Settings -> About Chrome
- Firefox: Help -> About Firefox

Install available updates

Restart the browser.
Disable Hardware Acceleration ->Probably the most important, if you have an older/cloggged machine
Sometimes hardware acceleration causes CPU spikes.

Go to Settings -> System (Chrome) or Settings -> Performance (Firefox)

Turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available”

Restart the browser.
Check for Malware or Adware

Run a malware scan using Windows Defender

Remove detected threats

Restart the PC.
Check System Resource Conflicts
If CPU usage remains high even with the browser closed:

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

Check for background processes related to:
- Sync apps
- GPU processes
- Antivirus
Disable or exit unnecessary programs.
Reinstall the Browser (If Necessary)
If the issue persists:

Uninstall the browser

Download the latest version

Reinstall and test again.
