How to Recover Your Forgotten Steam Password

Situatie

Using a password manager to keep all your complex and difficult-to-remember passwords is a great way to automate the sign in process while keeping your passwords safe. But if you don’t use one, you can easily find yourself locked out of your account and all your favorite Steam games.

While you can’t really recover the same password you were using, you can get back into your account by resetting your password to something new. Here’s how you reset your Steam account password.

Solutie

Resetting Your Password

If you’re using Steam for macOS or Windows, look underneath the account name and password fields and click the “I Can’t Sign In” button.

If you’re using the Steam website, head on over to the Steam Store and click the “Login” link, located at the top of the page.

On the sign in page, click the “Forgot Your Password” link.

From this point, the steps are almost identical for both the website and the desktop app, so we’ll be using the website to finish the procedure.

In the list of support issues, click the “I Forgot My Steam Account Name Or Password” option.

On the next page, type the account name, email address, or phone number you use to sign into your account, and then click the “Search” button.

If what you typed matches a valid Steam account, click the “Email Verification Code To” button, and then wait for the email to arrive.

If you no longer have access to the email on file, you can click the “I No Longer Have Access To This Email” option.

If you do that, you’ll have to fill out a form with some details about your account. Some of these fields include the first email you used, any phone numbers attached to your account, and the method(s) of purchasing games on your account. After you’ve submitted this form, Steam support will contact you with further account recovery details.

If you do have a current email registered, the message can take a few minutes to get to you. When you do get it, copy the code from the body of the email. (And if you don’t see the message after waiting a few minutes, be sure to check your spam folder.)

Back on the website or in the Steam app, paste the code you got from the email message into the field provided, and then click the “Continue” button.

Next, click the “Change My Password” button.

Type your new password (and make it a strong one), type it again to confirm, and then click the “Change Password” button.

That’s it! You’ve successfully reset your Steam password. From here you can click “Sign In To Steam” using your new password to start playing all your games again.
